We started with the Humor chapter, since that's the kind of gals we are...we laughed hard!
Then, we read Inspiration, Blunt Opinion, Good Advice, Therapy, and Never Give Up! Each quote was thought-provoking and lovingly chosen by a fellow self-published author.
It took us over 2 hours, because each daughter was motivated to start writing some fiction books right on the spot! Even though we wanted to stop reading, because we were all writing in our fantasy worlds, we wanted to read more to keep the mood upbeat and truly empowering!
After an hour of writing, my 13 year old wrote the most profound piece of art, we've ever heard her produce! Then, my 12 yo joyfully shared her funny lines that she's never been able to flow effortlessly. Then, our 10 year old just wrote and wrote...but, hasn't yet shared her personal notes as of yet.
Today, was another great day of writing, in which my 13 yo wrote her first incredibly deep and beautiful poem ever.
I know we'll be referring to this quote book over and over again--not just for the advice; but to relive this memorable family event!

I like to think of myself as a writer and sometimes, you just stare at the blank page and wonder what to do. These quotes are from famous people who know what to do and how to do it. They are the kind of sayings that you want to print off and pin to your wall so you can see them everyday. This was a very enjoyable read.

This is handy simply because it's in an e-book format so you can carry it on your phone, , iPad or any other device you might have and that gives you access when you're at your favorite Panera's or Starbucks writing hangout and in need of a quote to motivate or inspire. I also like the breakdown of the quotes in the various sections editing, good advice, humor, inspiration, opinion--make that blunt opinion--and therapy. The last made me laugh.
Excellent book. It is not easy to face a blank page as a writer, just as an artist faces a blank canvas. So these quotes from successful writers who have had years of experience and who are now successful are very valuable and carry many insights. To some of them I could say, "Yes, I have felt that way." but many of them opened new understanding for me. It will be the kind of book that I will want to go back to during the times I can't seem to sit down and write. Something like talking to an old friend who not only understands but can also point the way forward. Especially enjoyed the stories included about the authors who finally became published despite all the rejection and harsh words they went through at the hands of publishers and others--perseverance pays off. A gem of a book.
